5K on Highland

Oh yea, we did a 5k Saturday in B'ham. It was the jingle run for the Arthritis foundation. W got 3rd, P got 5th and I won't mention how bad I suck at running. 0 degrees C that morning, Highland Avenue closed to traffic, snow everywhere, almost like cross! They need a little mud. Had to go to SLP to work, so we skipped a good lunch at the cafe and ate at the park. B was already mad, so me thought me needed to get back and get to work.

Maglia Rosa and Sayonara

Well if there was ever going to be an EPIC cyclocross race in Alabama, we were the fools to put it on. And put it on we did. I don't think I ever got warm yesterday. I didn't even break a sweat in the sauna. 20 seconds into the first lap and I am in the mud behind a bunch of 4's that did not even attempt to ride through it. Feet drenched up to my knees. Then back on the bike behind about 15 or 20 slow pokes. B got his usual fast start and was gone. Collected most of the blokes on the second lap until some guy stops in the loop tee loop. Race over. Road hard, 12th. Going to masters division next year. I won't be any better, but at least I will be out there alone.

I still don't know why it turns blue when i move a picture around. Do you?

W on the other hand took the maglia rosa home and wants it framed. Good job, he rides hard and is good at it.

As much as I love cyclocross, I am glad we are off until January. The season gets pretty long, I did 9 races this fall and the cold ones are tough. Other issues involve maintaining and cleaning two bikes, various kits depending on the weather, and dragging the family out of bed on Sunday morning to go to a race.

Cross is alot of fun and a good family event. It is growing in Bama and will continue to grow as we get better at it and the word continues to spread.

Let it Snow

Anyone remember December 2007? Seems like a bunch of cross riders rode their bikes through a lake when it was about 0 degrees C. Well, guess what, it's going to happen again. Yep, we got at least one lake crossing plus the biggest mud hole you have seen this year. Epic, need Rapha wear.
Light weights stay home.

AARP Tour

Had a great ride with a couple of the old timers yesterday. Rode via auto cruiser to some wierd place B called the Fish Camp. Debunked to road bikes and started out the ride with a killer climb up Sand Mountain. Then rode for about a hour to Section Alabama and found a greasy spoon that had an authentic hamburger (real meat) on a steamed bun. Unreal! Mustard only, of course. Would almost drive over there for lunch today but I have a meeting with the Preacher. After the burger, we enjoyed an approx 5km descent at 70kph. Whew.
Topped it of with a PBR on the ride home. About 50km. Light rain, near dark, last 10kms.

Bamacross comes to Cullman Sunday.
Bring it!
